About The Event

Walk description:

This walking event will begin in the car park with some brief introductions and safety talks; there will be plenty of time for everyone to get to know each other as we progress through the day.

Heading out from the car park passing the Tarr Farm Inn, we will head north along the River Barle along the Two Moors Way, a 117 mile long-distance trail that runs from Wembury in the south of Devon, across the county to Lynton and Lynmouth on the north coast. The route is an absolute delight. There may even be the opportunity to stop for a quick paddle!

After a few miles we will pop out in Withypool, a lovely village with a stunning packhorse bridge over the Barle and a peaceful vibe all-round. From here our walk will head along a quiet country lane (Worth Lane) to Withypool Hill, where we will ascend via a small footpath. Should the weather be clear, expect stunning 360 views of the rolling Exmoor hills.

Descending via an ancient stone circle that sits on the south-western flanks of the hill, we will soon arrive back onto Worth Lane, which also happens to be a stretch of the Exe Valley Way. We will descend to Westwater Farm and the cutting through arable land where the route gently undulates as we pass through fields with wide-open views to the north across Exmoor National Park. This is a very rewarding stretch of the walk. Eventually we will reach Parsonage Farm and drop down via a steep path to the famous Tarr Steps clapper bridge. Occasionally this site can be busy, but hopefully we will hit it at a quiet time offering ample photographic opportunities in this blissful spot.

Finally, should serving hours allow, we will debrief and finish with a brew and cake at the Tarr Farm Inn.

Places are always limited on our walks, so do book on as soon as you can!
